CROSS COUNTRY
“Cross country at King Edward School became a popular pastime during the early 80’s and our boys have enjoyed the benefits of it ever since.”
CROSS COUNTRY OVERVIEW
Cross country running is a sport in which teams and individuals run a race on open-air courses over natural terrain. The course may include surfaces of grass, earth and gravel roads in open country.
Cross country running is both an individual and a team sport which falls under athletics and is a natural-terrain version of long-distance track or road running.
The sport focuses on developing a good running form and builds up an athlete’s endurance and strength level.
There are several cross country fixtures throughout the year which include inter-school, the inter-house and sports day events.
The team is selected from the runners with the best times and compete against other schools in the first term.
