“Across track and field, our boys have excelled in local and regional meets, with records still standing after decades.”

ATHLETICS OVERVIEW

Athletics takes place during the latter part of the first term in alignment with the independent Schools’ season.  As well as sprints and middle distance races, there are hurdles, long jump, high jump and shot put. One school team is selected. These meetings take place on a Wednesday afternoon and Saturday mornings.

Athletics as a sporting code is the ultimate base for young, aspiring sportsmen. Notable achievements included the introduction of the foundation phase athletes in fixtures (grass roots athletics).

Athletics was the first sport introduced as an extracurricular activity. The first School athletics team competed in 1905, and the School has been at the forefront of athletics amongst the traditional all boys’ schools in Gauteng.

The School Championship competition was run for the first time in 1905 and by tradition the victor ludorum in the School Championship is appointed athletics captain.
