HOCKEY

“Since its introduction as a winter sport, hockey has grown to be one of the biggest participation sports at our school.”

HOCKEY OVERVIEW

King Edward prides itself on its hockey facilities. Initially hockey was played on two well-maintained grass fields. In 1999 the School laid an artificial surface for hockey on the North Field. This surface was upgraded in 2010. In 2017 lights and a hockey pavilion, with change rooms and a viewing deck, were added. 2018 saw the introduction of an artificial surface warm-up area which doubles up as cricket nets in summer.

As a sport hockey continues the proud traditions of the School, promoting well-rounded individuals who not only achieve on the hockey field, but in all walks of life.

Hockey has gone from strength to strength in the school. Our first side participate in the South Africa Prep Schools’ Festival as well as our Hockey Festival in August.

Our Under 6 to Under 8’s play mini-hockey, whilst our Under 9 and Under 10’s participate in an eight-a-side league.

Our two Open teams participate in the A league on Friday afternoons. All hockey is played on the school’s Astro-turf in the third term.
